Biography
The world famous Soviet and Russian small arms designer Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov was born on November 10, 1919 in the village of Kurya, Altai Territory, into a large family.
Mikhail Kalashnikov, from early childhood, showed interest in mechanisms and wrote poetry. -
Education
Mikhail began to create a unique weapon without having a special or technical education. At first, his stock of knowledge was limited to seven grades of high school, then he increased his knowledge in the process of working in manufacturing enterprises. In 1942, thanks to Georgy Zhukov, he was a cadet at the Kiev Tank Technical School. -
Kalashnikov assault rifle
The modified AK assault rifle proved to be better than others in tests and was recommended for mass production. In 1948, the first batch of 1,500 barrels was produced at the Izhevsk Motorcycle Plant. The following year, the 1947 Kalashnikov assault rifle was put into service, and Mikhail Kalashnikov received the 1st degree Stalin Prize. In 1949, Kalashnikov was appointed designer of Izhmash, where he continued to develop his invention. -
Doctor of Technical Sciences
Kalashnikov was proclaimed Doctor of Technical Sciences in 1971. This scientific degree of designer was awarded for research activities and inventions, of which there were more than 35. -
Death
In early December, Kalashnikov underwent emergency surgery, but the surgery worsened the designer's condition. After a month, the doctors did not notice any visible improvements. A few days before the death of the gunsmith, he was transferred to intensive care due to gastric bleeding. -
