    Enlightenment
    The Enlightenment occured in the 17th century in Europe, and this was a time where new ideas were created about the natural world. These ideas revolutionized and changed the current government, economic structures, and society and its way of thinking. These ideas were from the minds of Enlightenment philosophers, who were constantly questioning the world.

  • The Industrial Revolution

    The Industrial Revoution began sometime in 1760 and went on until somewhere from the 1820's to the 1840's. This revolution was transition from goods being homemade to goods being machine produced. It was a huge turning point in history, and ultimately the rise of machines and factories in place of hand made goods.

    French Revolution
    The French Revolution started off with the people of France not being pleased with the Old Regime. There was unrest due to high prices, high taxes, and unsettling questions brought by the Englightenment philosophers. People weren't treated fairly. After being influenced by so many things, people began to rise up against the king of France.

    The National Assembly was a group formed by the Third estate. Their goal was to pass laws and make reforms in the name of the French people. They wanted to end the absolute monarchy and begin a representitive government.

    French Rev: The Tennis Court Oath
    The Tennis Court Oath was made when the National Assembly was locked out of a meeting with the estates general. They pledged to keep meeting until a new consitution was made. This pledge was called the Tennis Court Oath.

    The Haitian Revolution
    The Haitian Revolution was a slave revolt in France's colony of Saint-Domingue. This thirteen year long revolution lead to Haiti eventually becoming its own independent country.

    On this night, Dutty Boukman, a former slave and voodoo priest, organized a slave rebellion that was considered the starting of the revolution. Fields were burnt, sugar processing faciities and homes destroyed, and slaves from plantations all over joined the revolt.

    Brought on by Maximillien Robespierre, a time of death, war, starvation, and executiuon was upon France for just under a year. People were executed very often for really no good reason, and anyone suspected of being a traitor was executed too.

    Toussaint L'Ouverture established a Constituion that abolished slavery, declared equality of rights among all citizens, and outlawed the practice of Voodoo, switching it out for Catholicism. his Constitution was very unpopular among Haitian citizens, especially those who practiced Voodoo.

    Napolean Bonaparte was a young mikitary general that restored Paris and tried to fix problems with France's ties to Austia. He made Lycees, the Concordat, and got in power by Coup d'etat. He ruled for ten years.

    After all the troubles and issues in France, a congress formed for the better of Europe to try and contain France. This congress was made by Klemens Von Metternich. The goal was to make Europe a better place, doing things for the favor of all countries.

    The year long Berlin Conference was held in Europe for European countries to discuss the partitioning of Africa for European countries to colonize. This meeting excluded Africans and that upset them, and this leaded to more tension to build up in Africa.
