Ohio was admitted to the Union which was important for the liberals and was progress for Manifest Destiny. Politically, this was also important because United States started to have more power. -
Lifting of Mexico´s Independence
This event represents a very important political development because this way we free from the Spanish and begin to be our own country. This is totally liberal because we were fighting against the conservatism of the Spanish. -

This war was cause by Americans desire to expand its territory and to keep its independence, they used nationalism ti have mora national self-confidence and encourage the sense of expansionism. The consequences include the establishment of Canada's border, the end of British influences among other things. -
Industrial Revolution
When the Industrial Revolution arrive to the United States, it came with a lot of economic benefits. The U.S.A had a major number of exports and individuals who own factories increased their incomes, the benefits where for the whole country, not only individuals. -
The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine established that the Eastern hemisphere could not get involved with the Western hemisphere, this was a sign of nationalism from the U.S.A. This Doctrine had a big economic impact because the United States had a major expansion which benefited them. -
Texas Independence
This event affected Mexico economically because it took away territory from the country, as well as Texas wanted to have slaves, which was strictly prohibited on the Mexican Constitution.
Another aspect that affected Mexico in this event was the fact that they wouldn’t be able to trade or have any economic agreements with Texas, which made the country grow slowly. This was a conservative event because Texas didn't wanted to give up. (Liberalism) -
War with France
Mexico was one of the most invaded countries during this century, which led to huge amount of money-spending coming from this country, which directly affects its economy and development.
After the war ended, Mexico had to pay France a compensation for losing the war, also, The Monroe Doctrine didn’t have any impact on Mexico’s defense because the US was experiencing a Civil War, so they couldn’t help Mexico. (Nationalism) -
Manifest Destiny
In 1845 John O'sullivan coined the term Manifest Destiny, which had a great impact politically, economically and socially for the U.S.A. Manifest Destiny was based on God's will and nationalism. -
War with U.S.A
When Mexico started the war against the US they had to spend a lot of money on weapons and on equipment in order to make front to the American army, which led to Mexico asking for money to other countries. Mexico lost the war and they had to pay the US a compensation, as well as they had to pay their part to the soldiers that participated on the war. (Nationalism) -
Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty
Mexico had to give half of their territory to the US to cease the war from continuing. This affected Mexico because those states would have meant a lot of economic growth and production for the country, which largely harmed it. -
Mexico´s Constitution
This constitution is our political development, it dictates how our political system is and this is how we get to a democratic federal Republic. It is liberal, the constitution gave us freedoms and a democratic republic. -
Reform War
When liberals and conservatives were fighting for the power many economic factors were involved. In case liberalism won the war, economy would have more liberties and be distributed a bit more equally across the citizens living here. (Liberalism-Conservatism) -
Reform War
This war was a war between conservatism and liberalism in order to take out the church from the power, starting to implement laws called "Reform Laws". The church was obviously not happy with this but they weren't able to break up the law for their benefits, so the Liberalism continued as Mexico's form of government which meant a much bigger liberty for people to make decisions about how they wanted to rule their country. -
Abraham Lincoln is nominated President
Abraham Lincoln was elected President, he was the first Republican President to win the elections. For the liberals, this political event was really important because Abraham Lincoln helped them with their liberal aims. -
Civil War
The American Civil War began by a lot of reasons but the main one was because of slavery, the battle was between the north and the south. The north was liberal, it wanted civil rights and to abolish slavery, the south was conservative and wanted the opposite. -
French Intervention
This event had a significant political development because of the abolition of the Maximilian monarchy. It have an authoritarian ideology by the French as they wanted to reign Mexico with the pretext of the debt that we had with them but a liberal ideology in Mexico point of view. -
13th Amendment
This officially abolished slavery in America, this document stipulated that "Neither slavery or involuntary service, except as a punishment of crime where the party shall have been duly convicted...". Liberalism was an important ideology in this case because finally, there was freedom and civil rights for a lot of people. -
Southern states readmitted to Union
This event was really important because two small economies emerged as one big and strong economy. This economy became the capitalist economy we know now a days. -
Civil Rights Act passed
The Civil Rights Act was finally accepted, the Act established several liberal rights for American Citizens. This was a great political advanced because now Americans were protected by laws. -
Beginning of Porfiriato
This period was of ups and downs, his beginning was democratic but he turned it into authoritarian, his dictatorship was based on conservative and some liberal ideologies, he achieved at some point political stability and made Mexico a good place to live with a capitalist economy but it didn't benefit that much to the individuals.
