  • Battle of San Jacinto

    Santa Annas crueltty during the battle inspired many Texians both Texas settlers and adventurers from the US to join the Texian Army. Buoyed by a desire for revenge, the Texians defeted the Mexican Army.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidedgo

    Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed, establishing the Rio Grande as the U.S.-Mexican border. Under the treaty, Mexico also recognized the U.S. annexation of Texas, and agreed to sell California and the rest of its territory north of the Rio Grande for $15 million

Where United States agreed to pay Mexico $10 million for a 29,670 square mile portion of Mexico that later became part of Arizona and New Mexico. Gadsden’s Purchase provided the land necessary for a southern transcontinental railroad and attempted to resolve conflicts that lingered after the Mexican-American War.
