    Beginning in 1835, Texas battles to declare independence and finally does from Mexico in 1836.
  • Battle of the Alamo

    Began on February 23, 1835, Mexico finds out that Texas is going to declare independence and sends in troops to Alamo. Mexicans were successful. All Texan defenders were killed in battle.
  • Battle of San Jacinto

    Battle of San Jacinto
    The Texas army engaged and defeated the Mexican army in just 18 minutes. Only nine Texans were lost in this flight and 630 Mexicans had died and 730 were captured. The Texan army also captured Mexicos President.

    Starting in 1845, the battle to be annexed by the United States was abroad. By 1846, Texas had officially become part of the United States.

    Beginning on April 25, 1846, the United States and the Central Republic of Mexico went into battle( we went into battle with the Central Republic becuse we annexed Texas which was said to belong to them). Over the long and enduring fight, America came out with a victory.

    Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo/Mexican Cession
    Peace treaty between the US and Mexico. This treaty was created to end the Mexican American War. The Mexican Cession was the historial name in the United States for the region of the modern day southwestern US that Mexico ceded to US in the treaty.
  • Gadsden Purchase

    Gadsden Purchase
    Beginning in 1853, US was trying to extend the amount of land we had currently. The area of land purchased by the US is in a treaty signed by James Gadsden. This was the last territorial purchase for the United States (that added a large area to our country). The part purchased is now modern day southern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico.
