Good bye Mom
His dad had passed away a while ago and his mom was in charge of taking care of the family.But she passed away and Lewis had to take care of the family. He was incharge of his little brother and paying for food. Although this took away from his dream he still Did it cause he couldent just leave. -
Virginia Volenteer Corps
During the Whiskey rebellion he consequently joined the Virginia Volenteer corps. He didnt get payed during this. But it helped him get a reputation. He knew this would help get him a job exploring. -
Chosen Rifle Company
Acquitted he was transferred to the Chosen Rifle Company. The captain wa William Clark. After working there for six months Clark left. But they were friend so they werent gone forever. -
Needed Jefferson
Jefferson had been looking for people to work for him to explore the west. Lewis had applied many times but Jefferson still said no.Yet Lewis never gave up. He was determined to get that job some day! -
Promoted to Captain
Over these five years he had worked hard and diligently. He never gave up and finally got promoted to Captain. Yet Jefferson still said no. So he kept working hard. -
Jefferson is President!
Thomas Jefferson had been running in the campaign for president hoping to get elected. So finally he got elected. This meant he had more money from the government. To send people over to the west to explore. -
The Letter
After Jefferson was elected as president in early February, he looked for people to work with him. So he looked for his friend Lewis. He wrote Lewis a letter inviting him on this expedition. In this letter Jefferson refers to Lewis's "knowledge of the western country." -
Yes or No
When Lewis and Jefferon met again, Jefferson mentioned the expidition to him. Jefferson wanted him to not only help but lead the expidition! Lewis was unsure at first, but he made his decicion. -
To William
Lewis would go on the expidition but he wanted Clark to go with him. So he wrote him a letter letting him know that he was doing the and he wanted him to not only go but be the co-leader. Clark was unsure at first but he decided he would go. -
On Our Way to a New Life
After Clark agreed to go on the explration they started packing. In may they left for thier journey to the West. They started in the St. Louis area and went up stream on the Mississippi river. While on the journey they took many notes and drawings of what they saw. -
They Survived
In September they returned to St. Louis safe. Although they had many problems and a long time they survived. They showed and told Jefferson what they experienced and who they met and saw. Jefferson was able to say that it is safe out there, its just different than what they are used to. -
Hello Govenor
After there long journey to the west and back they settled down. But in March Lewis was named the Govenor of the Upper Lower Louisiana Territory. A couple years after Lewis was done being Govenor, Clark became the new Govener -
The End
On October 11,1809 Lewis died in Hohenwald Tennessee. He was staying at hotel and while he was sleeping and someone broke in and shot him in the head. Shortly after that he died. Some people today believed that he comitted suicide.
