Joseph Stalin was the dictator of The USSR for many years. Stalin took what was once a communist country and turned it into a dictatorship. Stalin is well known for taking a simple country in Russia and turning it into a worldwide power. He is also known for the death of millions. -

After the stock market could make any Average Joe rich during the twenties, It came to an all time low in late October, 1929. A day commonly called Black Tuesday. Many people came to live in Hoovervilles. A Hooverville is a shanty town built by homeless peoples during the Great Depression. -

Roosevelt's New Deal provided large amounts of money to pay for needy citizens, He also gave many people jobs for building highways, dams, and similar projects. -
Nazi Germany
Adolf Hitler took control of Germany with the help of his powerful public speaking. He promised the German people that he would take Germany out of poverty. He created an army even though it was against the treaty of Versailles. -
The Holocaust
The Holocaust was the mass murder of approximately six million jews during World War 2. It was led by Adolf Hitler and the rest of the Nazi Party. It is estimated that two thirds of jews living in Europe were killed. The Allied Forces were able to liberate the Concentration Camps were the Nazis kept the jews. -
The Bombing of Pearl Harbor
The Japanese flew over Hawaii and bombed there harbor. There was two hours of bombing. Once it was finally over 2,400 american lives were lost. -
The Cold War - Communism vs. Capitalism
A rivalry began between the U.S and Russia. This began because the U.S was capitalist and Russia was communist. There was a constant threat of nuclear weapons. -
Atomic Bombs - Japan
On August 6th, 1945, Harry Truman dropped the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, Japan. This killed approximately 90% of the city’s population. three days later, Truman dropped another atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki, Japan. The Japanese Emperor was forced to surrender the war. -
North Korea
During 1950, Korea was split into Communist North Korea and Capitalist South Korea. On June 25th, 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea. With the US backing them, South Korea was able to march into North Korea. The Korean War was the first “Hot War” of The Cold War. -
Veitnam
This was a war between North Veitnam and South Veitnam. North was communist and south was noncommunist. The U.S sent in troops to help south Veitnam. North Veitnam ended up defeating South Veitnam. Veitnam became communist -

The end of The Cold War was a gradual end starting in 1987, When the International Nuclear Forces Treaty was signed in Washington D.C. Then in 1989, A famous symbol, The Berlin Wall, came down. Then, in 1991 the USSR broke apart completely.
