Birth of the KKK
Six college students from Pulaski, Tennessee founded the organization. there was a meeting in April 1867 to formally set rules and structure. The organization was shut down and later reopened in 1915 by William J. Simmons. -
Little Rock Crisis
A group of 9 black students who were enrolled in Little Rock Central High School were denied entry to the school by the national guard. they were followed by angry parents and students. -
Freedom Riders
A group of 7 black and 6 white people went to Alabama to test the the new law that segregated buses were unconstitutional. during their second week of visiting a group of white people attacked the freedom riders and severly beat them, then set the bus on fire. the riders continued on to different states where they encountered more brutality. -
Bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday occured when 600 civil rights marchers were attacked by state troopers. The marchers were walking from Selma, Alabama to the capitol of Montgomery. -
Watts Race Riots
Watts Race Riot was a six day riot in the neighborhood Watts in LA. 34 people were killed. The police were attacked with stones and bottles. -
The Black Panthers
In Oakland California Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. They practiced militant self-defense of minority communities against the U.S. government, and fought to establish revolutionary socialism. -
Fair Housing Act
The fair housing act was an act that prohibited people to have discrimination in the sale, rental, and financial of dwellings.
