Though it's not directly linked to consumption I still think it's relevant because it allows artists to get there music on social media where it can ultimately spread. Spotify is linked to it meaning people can see what your listening to, it for personalisation reasons but it is definitely relavant to consumption. Facebook being the largest social media site means that it has the greatest effect on the industry, for record signed artists and independent alike. -
YouTube
The creation of Youtube has had a dramatic impact on the music industry and consumption. Almost every song worth listening to is on Youtube and all is required is internet connection. It creates a direct connection between the artist and consumer. People can now give their music to the world for free without the need of record labels and distributors. But it has opened up to piracy and gaining music for free. -
Soundcloud
The creation of Soundcloud has a dramatic effect specifically for independent artists. It allows people without the back of a record label or agent to gain some popularity and maybe a small fanbase. It also links with social media aswell. It's different from Youtube because its specifically for music but its similar because its using online sources for consumption. -
Spotify
Spotify is recent online streaming technology that is slowly gaining popularity as a free way of listening to music, much like radio in an essence except you select what you want to listen to.
