    Middle Ages

    During the 4th century hospitals were created for the poor and the travelers of ancient Rome. In the year 754 pharmacies were first established in Baghdad and were used as an easier way for doctors to give prescriptions to patients. A little over the Middle Ages, anatomy and dissection were being innovated as a man by the name of Mondino De Luzzi would write the first example of modern dissection called Anathomia corporis humani.

    Mondino De Luzzi

    Mondino De Luzzi also known at Mundinus was an Italian physician, anatomist, and medical professional. He wrote what was to be the first example of modern dissection manual and he also advanced the field of anatomy by doing public dissections in front of students.

    Theodoric Borgognoni

    Theodroric Borgognoni was said to live in the time of the Middle Ages and he was the first to utilize and create the antiseptic method which was basically cleaning the wounds of his patients so his patients could not get sick again.

    Renaissance

    During the Renaissance The Black Death occurred which killed 25 million people through the spread of diseases and infections. Lucky traces of vaccinations were found in the Renaissance to help prevent future diseases. Also surgery was discovered to be more precise and careful as they cleaned the wounds and used antiseptics. Also many people arose to advance medicine such as Leonardo Da Vinci, William Harvey, and so much more.

    Leonardo Da Vinci
    Leonardo Da Vinci contributed greatly to medicine but mainly focused on anatomy. He created the Virtuvian Man who was used to give exact proportions to the human body. Da vinci also dissected 30 bodies in his lifetime to get more accurate depiction of the human corpse. His sketched extremely accurate drawings of the human heart, lungs, corpse, and much more.

    Industrial Revolution

    During the Industrial Revolution the small pox vaccination was created which saved many people lives. Along with that the discovery of anesthetics which helped calm patients during surgery. Also the invention of Aspirin was created which assisted people get over nasty headaches or other things. Finally blood transfusion was discovered which assisted doctors as if they needed help with patients low on blood.

    James Lind was researching the effects scurvy had on the human mouth and teeth when he made a medical breakthrough and discovered that scurvy was caused by the lack of vitamin C and that citrus fruits could easily fix the problem.

    In the modern world doctors have innovated information technology as instead of using pen and paper we now use computers to keep track of patients files. We have also used robots to help us look inside the brain the of patients or organs or cells. We also have used drug combination to keep viruses and diseases more sterile and controllable. Finally stem cell research has allowed for regrowth of cells to fight of diseases and viruses.

    William Morton 1904 demonstrated the use of anesthetics that could be used as an air ether instead of the regular shot. This revolutionized anesthetics as it was much more effective and easier to give to the patient

    Sir Frederick Gowland Hopkins
    Sir Hopkins in 1906 wrote a paper on how vitamins and minerals are essential for the human bodies growth and development. He later went on to receive a Nobel Peace Prize in medicine and philology.
