British separatists leave
British separatists consider leaving the Netherlands because of disagreements with the Church of England and King James I. -
Decision for a new colony
The Virginia Company comes to an agreement with the British Separatists. The Virginia Company pays for the British Separatists to form a new colony in America. -
The Mayflower arrives
The Mayflower arrives at Cape Cod after a rough journey. Their trip lasted 65 days and they almost gave up several times. The original destination was Virginia but the storm blew them north to Cape Cod. -
The Mayflower departs
The Mayflower leaves England en route for America. It was carrying 102 passengers, there was a mix of Separatists, orphans, and servants. The ship is captained by Christopher Jones, an experienced sailor. -
The Mayflower Compact
The ship passengers create the Mayflower Compact. The document stated that all passengers will stay together and obey they colony laws. It was required that all male passengers signed the document before leaving the ship. -
Mayflower drops anchor
After searching for the best place to drop anchor and settle, they decide on Plymouth Harbor. Unfortunately, many of the settlers are sick and half die in the first few weeks. -

John Carver is named Governor of Plymouth Colony. He was the first to sign the Mayflower Compact. -
