Columbine High School Massacre
Columbine High School was attacked by two students, that brought pipe bombs, assault rifles, shotguns, and pistols to school. 15 were killed (including the perpetrators), and 24 were injured. Not much has changed with gun control when this happened.
Some schools increased security, by adding metal detectors, resource officers, etc. -
Deadly Atlanta Shooting
Mark Orrin Barton killed his wife, son, and daughter in Atlanta on July 27th.
On July 29th, he went to the offices of where he used to work and opened fire among his former co-workers. He shot himself shortly after. Not much occurred with gun control after this. -
Wedgewood Baptist Church Shooting
This man walked into a church doing a teen prayer and shot people with handguns.
He killed seven people, and injured seven more. Gun control was still not affected after this incident, but it didn't go unnoticed. -
Xerox Murders
A man in Honolulu, Byran Uyesugi, went into his workplace and shot his supervisor and six other co-workers with a Glock handgun. -
Wakefield Massacre
Michael McDermott went into his workplace and shot seven of his co-workers. His motive was that he was angered by his salary and how much taxes are taken out of it. Gun control issue was starting to rise, but essentially, not much happened then too. -
Virginia Tech Shooting
A senior at Virginia Tech, Seung-hui Cho, killed other students and staff in dorms, and in an academic building. The incident reignited the gun politics debate in the United States, with proponents of gun control legislation arguing that guns are too accessible. Opponents of gun control argued that Virginia Tech's gun-free "safe zone" policy ensured that none of the other students or faculty would be armed and that as a result they were unable to stop Cho. -
"Dark Knight Rises" Movie Theatre Massacre
James Holmes, a 24 year old guy, walked into a movie theatre showing "The Dark Knight Rises". He killed 12 people, and injured about 70. This was one of the infamous shootings in this generation, and gun control was still on the rise, but we couldn't come to a conclusion with it, as other problems were occurring that involved the U.S. -
Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting
This was one of the most deadliest school shootings, Adam Lanza shot 20 children, along with other teachers and staff at the elementary school before shooting himself. This brought more security to schools across the United States. -
2015 San Bernardino Attack
Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, a married couple living in the city of Redlands, targeted a San Bernardino County Department of Public Health training event. They brought an assortment of arsenal and killed 14 people and injured 22 more. Gun Control and background checks were placed shortly after this in 2016. Government made policies regarding obtaining weapons legally. -
Orlando Nightclub shooting
Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old security guard, killed 49 people and wounded 58 others in a terrorist attack/hate crime inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, United States. He was shot and killed by Orlando Police Officers after a three-hour standoff. It is the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in U.S. history, and the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. since the September 11 attacks in 2001. This sparked Gun control to be placed in order, as it was very deadly. -
Las Vegas shooting
A gunman opened fire on a crowd of concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, leaving 58 people dead and 851 injured. This was very popular because of where it was and how many people were affected by it. Gun control was sparked and people wanted this to change to avoid future situations, but nothing really happened after it. -
Parkland Florida school shooting
Nikolas Cruz, 19, carried a black duffel bag and backpack, where he hid loaded magazines, the report said. He arrived at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in an Uber at 2:19 p.m. on Wednesday and pulled out a semiautomatic AR-15 rifle. Protests are going on for gun control currently to put in gun control laws.
