Birth of Mary Stuart
Mart Staurt, becomes the Queen of Scotland when she is 6 days old. She is sent to France to becom the Queen of France when she is 5. Her marriage to Francois the second lasted only six months because he died of complications from an ear infection. Catherine de Medici, her mother -in-law, hated her and sent her back to Scotland when she was 16. -

Contract signed
The Earl of Arran, Governer of Scotland, signs a contract with Henry the second of France agreeing to summon the Scottish parliament in order the obtain its consent for the betrothal of Mart Queen of Scots to Henry the second's son Francais, heir to the French throne. The terms were: Mary was to depart for France and strategic castles were to be handed over to the French. Parliament agreed to these conditions of French aid. -

Mary sets sail for France
Fiive-year-old Mary Stuart sets sail for France, arriving on August 15th. From Dumbarton Castle, Mary sails down the Clyde Estuary to France with the French fleet. Also with her are her guardians, the Lords Erskine and Livingston, her nurse Jean Sinclair, her governess Lady Fleming, the four Maries, Ladies Fleming, Seton, Livingston and Beaton, three of her half-brothers and other children of the Scottish nobility. -

Elizabeth 1/Mary Queen of Scots becomes Queen of England
Elizabeth I becomes Queen of England. Though her parent’s married when Henry VIII's still hadn’t divorced his other wife so is in the view of the Catholic Church, Elizabeth is illegitimate. So in Catholic eyes, especially in Scotland and France, Mary Queen of Scots is the rightful claimant to the English crown. -

Mary weds once again
Mary and Darnley are wed. She is 22 and he is 19. The protestant nobles resent the marriage, particulary Mary's half brother, Lord James, Earl of Moray, who is soon declared an outlaw. -
The Babington Plot
The Babington Plot- Mary is implicatied in this plot to murder Queen Elizabeth.
15&15th October: Mary is tried for conspiracy to murder Elizabeth.
25 October: Mary is pronounced guilty in the Star Chamber at Westminster. -
Mary is executed in the Great Hall of Fotheringhay
Elizabeth finally ordered the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1587, but had a lot of hesitation in doing so. She was worried of the consequences of the execution, but one of her privy counscillors made sure to order Mary's death before Elizabeth could change her mind. Mary was unfairly tried, and was not even a citizen of England, so she could therefor not legally be tried for treason, but she ended up being executed for treason.
