KING BECAME A PREACHER
His grandfather (his mother's father) and his father were preachers. Firstly he didn't want to be a preacher but Dr. Benjamin Mays changed his mind and he finally graduated from Morehouse College. -
KING MARRIES CORETTA SCOOT
King met Coretta Scoot in 1952 while he was studying in Boston. This beautiful and intelligent singer was King's perfect wife, he told her the first time they went out together. They have 4 kids. -
KING BECAME THE PRESIDENT OF THE MIA
MIA (Montgomery Improvement Association) was an organization of black preachers and leaders in Montgomery. -
BOMBED KING'S HOUSE
The KKK (Ku Klux Klan) was a secret organization of withe man that started in 1864. They bombed and murdered many black people. -
KING WAS ARRESTED WITH 35 STUDENTS
The police arrest King with 35 students at Rich's lunch bar. BecAuse at that time, blacks mustn't go there. -
BURNING BUS
A Freedom Riders bus (a way for blacks to protest against segregation in bus stations), was attacked by 200 KKK men. They threw a firebomb and when the passengers got out of the burning bus, the KKK hit them. -
NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
King accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway. Not for himself, but for all the peaceful protesters against segregation and inequality around the world. He was the youngest to win it, with 35 years. -
AMERICA'S WORST RIOTS
From 11 to 16, the worst riots destroyed much of Watts (a very poor area of Los Angeles). It started for a group of blacks who didn't have jobs and their houses were terrible. There were 34 blacks killed, 900 were hurt and 3,500 were arrested. -
KING'S MURDERED
King was murdered by James Earl Ray when he was 39 years old outside the Memphis Hotel, but they don't know if he acted alone.
