Captain James Cook names Cape Flattery when looking for a water route from Europe to Asia. Cook stayed at the Sandwich islands (Hawaiian islands), and then traveled North. Cook stayed at Cape Flattery for several days and then traveled north to explore Russian America (Alaska). -
"Diamond Necklace Affair"
Swindlers in France had told a local jeweler that Marie Antoinette wanted to buy a diamond necklace that Louis XV had ordered but never got to buy. The necklace was reported to have been delivered to the castle, but the swindlers had kept the necklace to themselves. Several of the diamonds were put on sale by the swindlers and the swindlers were put in jail. -

The controversy and terror that Marie had caused was over, except for the start of the Reign of Terror. After she died, both of her children died childless.
