  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration from Britian, which had a lot of holes in the laws that caused the US to add ammendmanets soon after.
  • Slavery

    Introduction of forced labor amongst a different race caused the North and South to divid on moral belives. Tenses becan to grow among the different believes.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Senate passes Missouri Compromise. Northern free states are equal to Southern slave states. Everyone is content with the Compromise, until new territories are introduced causing an imbalance in the ratio of free to slave states.
  • Compromise of 1850

    California was ruled as a free states, thus making the slave to free state ratio uneven. This meant that there was a majority vote in the Senate, and it favored the North. South was outraged since now the North would be able to pass more laws faster, making the South to believe that their voice wouldnt be heard.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Popular Sovernty, the public would vote whether or not slavery could happen in these territories Went against the Missouri Compromise of !850. People of both pro and anti abolishionists rushed to these new territories to vote on free or slave state.
  • Dred Scott vs Sanford

    The case was brought to the supreme court, whether Dred Scott was a free man in Missouri after being brought to Illinois which is now Minnesota by an army surgeon. Since Minnesota was declared a free state Scott believed living there for several year would make him a free man in Missouri. Sanford ruled against this believe, in fact they ruled Scott to be a non-citizen of the US which made him nothing more than property.
  • John Brown's Raid

    John Brown led a small army of 18 into Harper Ferry, Virgina to start a slave revolution. His plan was doomed from the begining with no rations or escapde route. The only thing he suceeded in was causing a bigger divid between the North and South.
  • Election of 1860

    Lincoln was elected. although 60% of votes were for someone other than Lincoln. South Carolina had suceded from the Union causing an even biggere dispute amongst the North and South
