Mexican-American War
It was a conflict after US annexation of Texas because Mexico still considered Texas its own. The US won and granted all land from Texas to California, except the Gadsden Purchase, in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. -
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
This ended the Mexican-American War. Mexico gave up all claims to land from Texas to California for $15 million. -
Fort Laramie Treaty
The Indians guaranteed safe passage for settlers on the Oregon Trail in return for promises of fifty thousand dollars for fifty years. The Native American nations also allowed roads and forts to be built in their territories. -
Gadsden Purchase
It was a treaty where the U.S. bought parts of what is now southern Arizona and southern New Mexico from Mexico. Southerners wanted this land in order to build southern transcontinental railroad, it also showed the American belief in Manifest Destiny.
