Louisiana Purchase
France was in debt because of all heir wars and needed money. The U.S. wanted to buy New Orlenes from Fance but was offered the whole Louisiana territory. This happened in 1803, was 828,000 square miles, and included 15 current states. Once the purchase was made Thomas Jefferson sent a group known as the Core of Discovery to explore the new land. The Louisiana Purchase is one of the largest land purchases in our countrys history. -
Corps of Discovery Expedition
After the biggest land purchasee in America's history we needed someone to explore it. Thomas Jefferson sent a group known as the Corps of Discovery out to explore the land. In this group was Lewis and Clark. Lewis was a woodsmen and cheif aid while Clark ws a map maker and river man. Their goal was to find a northwest waterway passage to the Pacific ocean. Sacagewea was also on this voyage. She helped them hunt and gather food. Even though the trip was not successful it helped shape our country -
War of 1812
Imagine your two best friends are fighting and you are stuck right in the middle of that? Thats how America felt during the war of 1812. France and Britain were having a problem and attempted to cut off our traders from each side. With them doing that we were losing money . The final straw was when Britain started taking those traders and forcing them to be soldiers. We then started a war with Britain. Even though this war is usually forgotten it was/is very important. -
Florida Territory
Could you imagine not being able to go to sunny florida over the summer? Well be thankful bacuse of the Adams-Onis Treaty Signed by John Quincy Adams and Don Luis de Onís. Andrew Jackson was first sent to the Florida Territory to take slaves back that the Seminoles stole.While Jackson was there he went against orders and toke over their military bases. Their bases we forcedto surender and we payed them five million dollars for the territory. Be happy that you can go to florida! -
The Monore Doctrine
That sign on your door as a little kid that says "Keep out!" well at one time the united states had one of those. James Monroe did not want any Europeans coming over into the western hempisphere to take land. It stated that any people who tried to come over were a threat. Also, that if there was already Europeans here we would allow them to stay. Overall it just said that Europeans couldn't come over into our side of Earth. -
Indian Removal Act
Someone comes into your house and makes you leave. This happened to Native Americans when President Andrew Jackson issued the Indian Removal Act. The speeches that the Presidrnt gave put a very positive and favorable spin on indian removal. The native people were not happy with this and took their case to the Supreme Court. They agreed with them but Andrew Jackson went against them. Troops came in and forced the Indians to move to Oklahoma. This was good for Americans but morally was very wrong. -
The Trail of Tears
According to legend every tear that fell on the trail of tears a rose grew. The trail of tears was a path that the Americans made the native Americans walk and it ended up in Oklohoma. The Cherokee refused to leave but in the end we forced the out at gunpoint. Nearly a quarter of all Natuve Americans died on the way. We did a horrible thing and to this day are still trying to make it up tho them. -
Texas
Texas was once its own country! It was once apart of Mexico but broke away and was its own country for nine years.They won their freedom at the Alamo and even though they lost it pushed them to fight more. They didn't join the United States for that long because our previous president didn't want them due to the slavery issue and border disputes. However in 1845 James K. Polk allowed them into the USA. If Texas didn't get their freedom the United States would not look the same as it does today. -
Oregon Territory
Have you ever had to share something with someone? Well England and America shared the Oregon territory. Th territory was Briatains but we wanted it. We fought for it and ended up splitting it between the two of us. The Americans demanded the line of Latitude 54'40 or fight. However in the end we got the territory sounth of the 49 degree latitude line. We fought hard for this and even though we didn't get it all it still tremendously helped our country. -
Mexican American war and The Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo
The Mexican-American war got us the Southwest territory. The reason why was because the United States claime that Mexican soldiers came over and killed Americans. However some say it was just so we could get more land. We offered to buy the Southwest Territory for thirty million dollars but they said no. The treaty that ended the war wass the Treatty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and it gave us the southwest territory. Even though we were land hungey the end product was good.
