    In 1299 the Turkish Empire was founded, soon to become the Ottoman Empire, under Islamic beliefs. They would use their religion and might to force themselves through other lands to become a powerful Empire.

    Several conquests were made during these years that added on to the Empire and spread Islam across the lands.

    Victory at Kosovo Field

    The victory at Kosovo Field yielded a large portion of the Balkan Peninsula for the Ottoman Empire, and brought Islam to a new territory.

    Victory at Nikopol

    The Ottoman victory at Nikopol gave them almost complete control of the Balkan Penninsula, they were met with less resistance here due to the spread of Islam ahead of the military lines.

    Ottomans suffer defeat

    After laying siege to the city of Constantinople the Ottomans were fought off and suffered their first major defeat of their expansion. But this loss would not hold them back for long.

    The Period of great Expansion

    During the approximate years shown, the Ottoman Empire rallied under several new leaders that reinvigorated the Empire with a renewed faith in Islam. The Ottomans quickly expanded during these years to become a massive power in Europe and the Middle East.

    Capture of Constantinople

    The Ottomans attack and capture the city of Constantinople. This is widely seen as their greatest victory not only for the great city that they have won, but now more people are converting to Islam of free will and joining the Empire willingly.

    Gaining ground in Africa

    By 1518 the Ottomans had their foothold in Africa by taking several cities in Egypt. From this position they were free to send Islamic volunteers down through Africa to begin converting the populations there.

    Great advancement in culture

    By 1535 the Ottoman Empire was moving ahead of the rest of the world not only in might and force but aslo in the culture of its people. The Ottomans made great advances in Astronomy, trading, law, art, and architecture, just to name a few.

    A crushing defeat at sea

    The Battle of Lepanto is considered one of the defeats that started tipping the Ottoman Empire off its throne.

    More defeats start chipping away at the Ottoman Empire

    Between the given years the Ottomans suffered massive defeats along their campaign route. The Ottomans lost several territories including Hungary.
  • Loss of Egypt and Greece

    After fighting back and forth over several territories for the last hundred years, the Ottomans lost major campaigns in Greece and Egypt in 1828 and 1829 causing both countries to fall from the grasp of the Ottomans.
  • The Congress of Paris

    After several treaties, the Congress of Paris recognized the independence of the Ottoman Empire, however the treatie ended up removing more of the rights that they had rather than giving them.
  • Rebellion from within

    A rebellion group, the Young Turks, rose up and toppled the current government. This le to dissent from within and religious tension.
  • The Balkan Wars

    Two back to back wars saw the loss of a majority of the Ottoman Empire's remaining land
  • The Ottoman Empire fianlly falls

    With the end of World War 1 we saw the end of the Ottoman Empire. The nation that was founded on Islam and spread its message to the far reaches of Europe and Africa. Even though the Ottomans are gone we can still see their traces in the regions were Islam is still the primary religion.
