  • Louis XIV Calls the estates general

    Before the estates general was called, France faced many financial issues such as their severe debt. This was because of the increasing cost of government as well as the cost incurred from fighting two previous wars. When the estates general met they first established how they would vote. Not being able to agree, this led to the National Assembly.
