Major events of the French Revolution: 1789-1799

  • Tennis Court Oath

    The Third Estate vowed to meet every day until the constitution of the kingdom was established on June 20, 1789 in France, at a handball court where they met every day until declared a national assembly
  • Storming of bastille

    Parisian revolutionaries and Mutinous troops stormed an dismantled the Royal fortress on July 14, 1789 in Paris, France because there were rumors of ammunition. The mutinous troops decapitated the warden and released the seven prisoners.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man written

    On August 26, the National Assembly signed the Declaration of
    the Rights of Man inspired by the English Declaration of Independence to give all men equal rights
  • The Directory

    A group of 5 electors chosen by the council of 500 took power
    but was known only for being corrupt and abusing power, until
    they were finally turned on and overthrown by Napoleon
  • Napoleon's coup d ' état

    Napoleon was a general that turned on the directory in 1799 and overthrew the directory because of their corrupt ways and gained power
  • The Reign of Terror

    During the years 1793-1794, the Committee of Public Safety took
    control of the government to defend the domestic violence and
    threats from the people of France. The committee came up with
    policies known as the reign of terror
