    The missiouri Compromise
    The Missiouri Compromise was a statue that regulated in the United States western terroritories. It passed an amendment that drew an imaginary line across the former Louisisanna Terroritory. It took place in Missiouri and is a part of the Civil War causes because northerners claimed it was just an expansion state for slavery. The Supreme Court called it Unconstitutional during the Dred Scott case.
  • Underground Railroad

    Underground Railroad
    The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes all over America in order to escape to the free states. It happened so that slaves could escape the slaved south into the free north or west. Harriet Tubman was a major role and leader helping some 70 slaves get free. It relates to the Civil War because the south didn't like that their workers were running away North and becoming free civilians. The Underground Railroad went on for longer then just one year.

    Compromise of 1850
    The Compromise of 1850 took place in Kentucky by a governer named Henry Clay. It's main purpose was to keep conflict down between the North and the South. The Compromise became possible after the death of president Zachary Taylor. This relates to the Civil War because they had to make a law to keep the two sides from fighting, that's how bad t had gotten at the time.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin is an anti-slavery book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The book wa written in the North in the state of Maine. The book was written to show how bad slavery is and why slavery should be revoked. It relates to the civil war because she wrote the book to tell the South how badly they were treating slaves and they took it as an insult.

    Bleeding Kansas took place from 1854-1861. It was a proxy war between the free states of the north and the slave states of the south. It took plac in Kansas and Missouri. It happened because Kansas was a new state and they didn't know if it was going to be a free or slave state. This was a major cause to the civil war because both sides wanted the terroritory and could not come to an agreement on who would get it.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was an African American slave during the mid 1800's. He was born in Virginia but moved to Alabama where his master attempted to own a farm. He was then sent off to Missouri where he was sold to John Emerson. Dred Scott claimed that he was free and had married a girl from Wisconsin, a free state. He went to court and people were furious, mainly pro-slavery people. This relates to the civil war because it was more conflict between the north and south and let to the Bloody Kansas.
  • John Brown

    John Brown
    John Brown was a white American abolitionist who raided Harpers Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia). The raid was unsuccessful and led to his death by hanging. His supporters killed 5 slavery supporters. It happened because they were trying to arm local slaves to help them be freed. It relates to the cause of the Civil War because him and his men attacked a weapon stronghold attempting to arm slaves and start a war to be free.

    South Carolina became the first state to leave the United States in 1860. They did this because they wanted to be a part of their own country, not the United States. Soon after, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, and Louisianna joined them, making the Confederacy. It realtes to the Civil War because it was where it all started and it was the first state to go against the North.

    The Election of 1860 was between Abrnaham Lincoln and John C. Breckinridge. In the 1850's the United States had been divided, so this election was crucial to America. It happened in Washington D.C and Lincoln won. It happened because it was time to put a new leader in to reform the states. It relates to the Civil War because the south did not like Lincoln and 7 states later started the confederacy after his inauguration.

    Fort Sumpter is located in Charleston, South Carolina. It happened because the confederates new that a resupply was on the way and they wanted to stop it. It is a cause of the Civil War because it was the first battle fought in the war.
