    Mohandas Karmachand Gandhi was born on October 2nd, 1869. He was born around Porbandar. He was born into the Vaisya caste as a merchant.

    19 year old Gandhi went to London to study law. He spent his free time studying philosophy, and non-violent acts. 10 years later he returned to India after not being successful in London.

    After Gandhi was not successful in London he returned and journeyed to South Africa two years later. He was admitted into the supreme court, and build a larger practice for law. Some of the Indians followed their leader and went to South Africa as laborers.

    Ghandi began his peace revolution after he saw how others were treated. He stated that he would go to jail before obeying an anti-Asian law. Many of Indians joined on his act, and he was put in prison twice.

    Mahatma retired from the 'head of the party' but remained the true leader. He thought that India would never be free as long as it remained under the British Empire. He demanded independence from Britain as Britain's price for aiding them in war. He was sent to jail for this action for two years.

    On January 30 1948 Gandhi was assassinated on his way to prayer. He was killed by a Hindu that was extremely annoyed the Gandhi made efforts to make peace between two religions. Around 50 years later her ashes were spread in the Ganges river.
