My Aunt Marsha who was like a second mom to my sisters and I, suffered a major stroke in 1990. The life changing event made me and my family realize quickly how many buildings were not wheel chair accessible. Also learned stores never had enough handicap parking spaces. One time we had to wait twenty or even longer for spots to open.

My daughter was in third grade and she got to portray a historical figure. She related a great deal to Helen Keller because she has an auditory processing disorder. It was difficult for her to hear the teacher give instruction in the classroom. Especially if there was too much background noise in the classroom. School was difficult but she has learned to adapt.

My son has a rare condition called Lymphatic Venous Malformation. When he was in sixth grade he got really sick with a double ear infection and strep throat. Unfortunately, this caused the Lymphatic Venous Malformation to grow and ended us up in the hospital at Benioff UCSF. Being in the hospital made us realize to never take things for granted.
