  • Sugar Act

    The British Parliament put a high tax on sugar. This helped the movement that became the American Revolution. This angered the colonists. The Sugar Act was also know as the American REvenue Act.

    The Parliament imposed a tax on the colonies. This act required that printed materials be printed on stamped paper made in London. It must be paid in british currency and not colonial money. The colonists were appalled by the new act. The money went to pay for the troops.

    The orginazation of the Sons of Liberty originated in the colonies. They were for the people's rights and tried to protect the colonists. They wanted freedom and to have equal rights that were fair to the people and not just the British.

    The Townshend Acts were passed by the Parliament. It is named after Charles Townshend. The taxes helped pay the salaries of judges and governors. The Twonshend Acts were also known as the Coercive Acts.

    The Boston Massacre was also known as the incident on King Street. The Red Coats killed 5 colonists and injured 6 colonists. The red coats fires without warning after a verbal fight that sooned turned bad.

    The Committees of Correspondence were shadow governments. These shadow goverments were set up by the British to watch over the colonies.The shared their ideas and coordinated with Britain. The maryland Committee contributed to helping set up the first Continental Congress.

    The Tea Act was supposed to reduce the great surplus on tea. The colonists were very angry about this high tax on the tea. They boycotte the act. InBoston the protest was known as the Boston Tea Party.

    John Adams called the Boston Tea Party 'The Destruction of the Tea in Boston". This protest was led by the Sons of Liberty. Colonists threw shiploads of tea into Boston Harbor. This was a protest against the tea act which set a high tax on tea that upset the colonists.

    The Intolerable Acts were laws passed by the Parliament. These laws were passed after the incident of the Boston Tea PArty. They were named The intolerable Acts because they were intolerable to the people. This contributed to the American Revolutionary War.

    Representatives from each colony met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This meeting was called to follow the intoerable acts, They discussed the incident of the Boston Tea Party. They also discussed their economy.
