ADDITIONAL FORCES WEAKEN THE CHURCH
The Renaissance put an emphasis on worldly ordeals. The individual started to question the church. Germany, which was divided into states, was especially hard for the pope to control. Northern merchants refused to pay taxes adding to the pope's struggle for control. -

LUTHER BECOMES A MONK!
Luther became a monk, and a teacher going against his parents whishes. Martin Luther's parents wanted him to become a lawyer instead. He worked at the university of Wittenberg where he taught scripture. -

THE 95 THESES
Luther took a public stand against a man named Johann Tetzel. Tetzel was selling indulgances as a way to gain entrance into heaven. So he posted 95 statements that he thought were wrong with the church. -

THE POPE'S THREAT (DUN DUN DUN....)
Pope Leo X, threatened Luther with excommunication. Students where he worked gathered around a fire, and cheered as Luther threw the pop's decree into the flames. -

Martin Luther is excommunicated by Pope Leo X after chanlenging the Pope again. -

Diet of Worms
Luther goes before members of the estates to determine Luther's fate. The prince made it so he was arrested immeadiatly. It also became illegal to offer Luther any food, drink or shelter. Killing Luther without any legal consequence also became legal. Luther was immeaditatly banished. -
