    The Shona people had arrived in the 1000s in the now known region called Zimbabwe. The Shona started to settle around the Zimbabwe region. They started to attract other tribes; They started trading with one another. The reason why it brought significance to lower Africa cause it started to expand the Shona tribe. It had helped the tribe to also expand their resources, and create a trade environment. Then it also helps the tribe to improve their requirements, crops, and animals.

    The Start of Great Zimbabwe
    Due to the expansion of people in the land, they made a whole city called “Great Zimbabwe” The Great Zimbabwe (which is the Shonas trading empire) was built around the 1100s. Great Zimbabwe was located in the now known region Zimbabwe; Great Zimbabwe became the capital of Zimbabwe. The City became a very important, and wealthy trading network. It was significant because it had helped the expansion of the city and made the city one of the elite trading places around that region.

    Great Zimbabwe was located in the now known region called Zimbabwe. Great Zimbabwe was abandoned during the 1300s. The Mapungubwe people had abandoned great Zimbabwe; all of the trades started to die down. The abandonment was caused the overpopulation. So the people who lived there started to move to other tribes. This action left the temple in ruins, and become historical architecture. This is significant because it gave architects a view of Zimbabwe’s culture.

    The start of civilization
    This was the start of their civilization. The Tswana people are farmers and livestock keepers. They were descendants of King Mogale who lived in Magaliesberg Mountain in South Africa. The Botswana people spoke Bantu. Botswana is a desert called the Kalahari desert and covers Namibia and South Africa. In The Kalahari desert, they grew crops such as sorghum, maize, millet, and cowpeas. It was hard to grow crops because of the dry land and the harsh climate.

    Botswana traded with Mozambique. This was significant because this was the start of trading for Botswana in the 1600s. The Tswana rulers sometimes would fight over who would control and trade with Mozambique. Botswana traded many things such as cattle, ivory, copper, and salt. The Botswana people also had people that were enslaved and would trade them in. Mozambique traded with Botswana. They traded with them and traded steel tools, tobacco, sugar cloth, and rum.

    Sonyo was one of the richest provinces in Congo. Later in 1641, Soyo decided to declare independence from Kongo. This was a big thing because this caused a civil war for almost 100 years. 20 years later the Portuguese invaded the Kingdom. They battled and Kongo lost their King Antonio. They also lost an important part of their land, which had their local currency. After the death of King Antonio, there was competition for power over the factions. Including Kinpanzu and the Kinlaza.

    The Kingdom of Kongo was falling apart in the 1600s and everyone knew it. But the thing is, that it fell apart so quickly. Fortunately, the war came to an end in 1718. It came to an end because they finally recognized Pedro IV as the King of Kongo, eventually, all the faction did as well. Their economy was ruined and it was a disaster. Throughout the years with all the battles and disagreements of power. It had destroyed the kingdom and it was just waiting for its final downfall.

    During the 1800s Mozambique was still under Portuguese control. This lasted from the 1890s through the late 1930s. Mozambique was exploited by the Portuguese and so were the Mozambique resources. The Portuguese enslaved Mozambique which is where slavery in Africa mostly originated from. When the Portuguese came to Mozambique they were there for the gold and then just settled there from then until 1975 which was when the people of Mozambique finally got their freedom.

    Mozambique was under Portuguese control. But they then fought for their freedom from 1964 to 1974. The physical fighting stopped on September 8th, 1974. This ended with a negotiated independence from Portugal on June 25th, 1975, and was the end of Portugal's 300-year reign. Mozambique started the war because of frustration with the Portuguese mistreating them which only led the Portuguese to gain a prophet but the Mozamb. In 1999 Mozambique also had its second election.
