March 9, 1661, Louis weaken nobles
When Cardinal Mazarin dies, Louis takes control of the government. He did this by decreasing the power of the nobles, and increasing the dominance of the government in order to collect taxes and administrated justice. -
March 9, 1667, Louis expands France
Lois expand France boundaries. He captured Spanish Netherlands and gained 12 towns for his country. He led the army to invade Dutch Netherlands,it failed , France still gained several towns and region called Franche-Comte. -

Louis decide to fight more for lands, because he ran out and by the end of 1680's a European wide alliance formed to stop France. Their strategy was to balance out the powers, in which no single country could dominate others. -

The palace of Versailles was originally a hunting lodge built in 1624, by Louis xiii. Louis xiv expanded the palace to prove his absolute power. The palace was the residence of kings of France from 1682-1790. This also weaken the people because they took a lot form their taxes -

Louis made art very popular, especially opera and ballet. The purpose of art was no longer glorify god. He thought that art during the renaissance period was to glorify the ling and help ruling. -

Louis makes the economy low, he canceled the Edict and Nantes, which religious rights of Huguenots were protected because of workers and businessmen fled the country, Louis did not like religion. -

A war that lasted from 1701-1713, in which Europeans states fought to prevent the Bourbon family from controlling Spain and France. France lost their colonies and wealth. -
Sep 1, 1715 Louis XIV death
Louis died tragically, he realized that the wars have ruined France, he regrets all the suffering people has to go through. Louis XIV died in his bed and the news of his death made France happy.
