Hi Barbie
When I was younger, playing with Barbies was my whole world. I loved creating characters and making story lines for them to follow. At night time my imagination would run wild with new stories and drama my Barbies could play out the next day. I would set up neighborhoods and even sew my own clothes for certain characters that did not have clothes to match their characters. -
I Think I Know Where I got My Attitude
Junie B. Jones was the first book series I ever got invested in. Her wacky stories and witty attitude kept me entertained and I would say it was the first book to affect me in the outside world. I remember trying to dress like her, make the same jokes as her and honestly trying to act just as terrible as she did sometimes. -
I'm Feeling Romantic
As I grew up, I knew that I loved reading, but I wasn't quite sure what. Sci-fi, faeries and wizards, and action never really called to me. Non fiction would be interesting but never something I could lose myself in. I started reading anything and everything romance when it came to my choice of novels. What started with purchasing one or two books, turned into me now present day with two full bookshelves and the rest of my books stacked on the floor. -
Sul Sul!
Ever since I was younger, The Sims game franchise has been my absolute favorite game. To this day, I create characters with story lines and drama, I give them family and friends and let the story unfold itself. To this day, I can sit on my computer for hours and hours playing and it feels like no time has passed. Playing the sims is to me, the grown up version of playing with barbies. -
Comic Strips!
Reading really helped my imagination go wild. I enjoyed reading so much I started to want to make up my own stories to read, where I could control everything that happens and really make something my own. As a way to personalize it even more, I decided to create drawings with my stories, basically creating my own comic books. I remember I would even put my own advertisements at the bottom of each page that were a preview to my other comic stories. -
Feeling Inspired
As I got more focused on reading, whenever I wasn't reading, I was thinking about reading, thinking about the fictional world I wish I could be apart of. I would in my own mind, imagine the characters I was reading about in different situations, almost like creating fan fiction, but in my head. This ended up leading to me creating my own characters, worlds, and stories in my head. -
Putting it on The Page
Soon I had literally too many ideas bubbling in my brain and needed to let them out so I could organize them. I started by bullet pointing key ideas and separating them into different stories. Soon I had notebooks and notebooks full with introductions to stories, fully fleshed out character designs, and basically planned 3 books. I still have these notebooks, but I haven't done much with them because now that I am older, I have more mature ideas and views and would switch some things around. -
Present Day
While I fledged out some ideas and made them bigger than a couple bullet points, my main focus now has shifted to school and my job over the summers. I remember that four summers ago, I would spend the entire three months sitting in the kitchen writing everything out and now, I can barely write at all. Its unfortunate but I hope that by me taking this time to focus on my classes that my skills as a writer can develop. I also hope the books I read shape me as a writer too.
