  • Favorite Book As A Toddler

    Favorite Book As A Toddler
When I was four, my mom used to sing to me a lot. She had a book called Love You Forever, by Robert Munsch and would sing the book to me all the time. I remember the way she would sing it so well.
  • First Grade Reading

    First Grade Reading
I learned to read at a very young age. I'm not sure when, exactly, but I remember having reading assignments in the first grade and I'd always read stories from our big reading book. Old classics like "The Little Red Hen" and "The Tortoise and the Hare."
  • Reading With My Friend

    Reading With My Friend
By third grade, I had already began reading chapter books. My friend Xandi and I would have reading races during class, and often would get in trouble for reading during lessons. One of my favorites that I actually won the race with was The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo
  • Last Day of Third Grade

    Last Day of Third Grade
On the last day of school in third grade, my favorite teacher read to us. She picked the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, the Places You'll Go. That was the last children's book that was ever read to me in elementary school, and it has by far been my favorite.
  • Percy Jackson Series

    Percy Jackson Series
At the start of fourth grade, and throughout fifth grade, my English teacher, Mrs. Dennis read the entire Percy Jackson series to my class. It was a tradition of hers and she knew most of it by heart. Rick Riordan was one of the very first authors that I couldn't help but read more from.
  • Writing Challenges With A Friend

    Writing Challenges With A Friend
In sixth grade, I met a good friend of mine; Angelida. Her and I would write story titles for each other and we would challenge one another to write a short story about them. Sometimes they were silly, and sometimes they were very interesting.
  • Reading To My Niece

    Reading To My Niece
Once I started middle school, my niece got into being read to. I would read her little stories from these mini wooden books she had. They were basically the summaries of Disney movies with pictures from the movies on each page.
  • Writing Stories

    Writing Stories
During seventh grade, I got into writing. I wrote tons of stories about my life, apocalypses, romance, anything imaginable. A couple of my friends actually got into two stories of mine, and I was so proud.
  • My Favorite Book

    My Favorite Book
In eighth grade, my best friend introduced me to my favorite book. She raved about it for a couple of days, and then eventually brought it for me to read for myself. It was called Lucid by Adrienne Stoltz, and to this day, I have yet to find a book that I have enjoyed more than that one.
  • Footloose Play

    Footloose Play
This year, I joined the Upward Bound Program. It was one of the best decisions I've made so far, for many reasons. But one of the most fun things we did there was go to Jenny Wiley theater to watch the Footloose play. It was super entertaining and the actors were fantastic.
