  • Bedtime Reading

    Bedtime Reading
Whenever I was younger, my mom would read me a story every night before I went to sleep. My moms favorite book to read to me was called, "I'll Love you Forever".
  • 1st Grade

    1st Grade
I had trouble reading and actually had to have special help in school. I remember often having to do the reading tests and being especially nervous and getting very flustered. This extra help has definitely helped me in the long run.
  • My Grandma's Daycare

    My Grandma's Daycare
We played a lot of board games and card games. I remember playing Bingo, Go Fish, and Monopoly Jr. Uno was another game we often played. Another activity I remember enjoying with my grandma was watching different movies. From the time I was younger I would watch animated Disney movies with her while the younger kids would take naps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZb_yBqYqJM
  • Playing Banker

    Playing Banker
I remember my grandma had fake money at her house and we would play with it and pretend that we were bankers, using our math literacy adding and subtracting the numbers. Early on we learned what it meant to withdrawal and deposit money.
  • 4th Grade Reading

    4th Grade Reading
When I was in 4th grade I was in the advanced reading class. This was the first time I was ever ahead of the majority of the grade. After being behind as a reader in 1st grade, this felt like a large accomplishment.
  • Baseball Literacy

    Baseball Literacy
My mom and my stepdad got married and with him being a big baseball fan, through him I learned the literacy of baseball, and especially the Chicago Cubs. I have never been one to play many sports but through him I have learned how to talk baseball and everything in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnHV5FaqvEs
  • 6th Grade

    6th Grade
I remember checking the book "Soul Surfer" out of our school library. It seemed very tedious to go to the library and pick out a book that I never would end up reading. This book however, was the first book I really remember sitting down and enjoying cover to cover. With it being a true story of a young girl I was really inspired. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5UqOGkFtNc
  • Sophomore Year Honors

    Sophomore Year Honors
Going into my Freshman year of high school I wasn't recommended to be placed in the Honors English class but I was okay with that. However, when it came time to sign up for sophomore year classes I was given the opportunity to join the Honors English II class and I did. This set me up to be in the AP Literature class my Junior year of high school.
  • ACT Writing Score

    ACT Writing Score
After taking the AP Literature course we heavily prepared ourselves to take the writing portion of the ACT. That year, I ended up receiving the score of 11/12. This made my comprehensive score of reading and writing a 27, making it my highest score of the ACT.
  • Golden Apple Literacy

    Golden Apple Literacy
In the Golden Apple program this past summer I was able to help in a 6th grade math class. Here we helped the students strengthen their math vocab and problem solve through simple skills. I also was able to take the literacy course they offered at our program.
