  • Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori believes that for children to learn literacy it is most organic for them to learn how to write first then read. Children will learn to write letters by using sandpaper And once they have mastered the sounds of each letter the student will be shown a moveable alphabet which will allow them to piece the letters together by using the sounds.

  • Invention of the Whole word method

The whole word method was created and the teacher would pronounce and spell the whole word and they also taught phonics and applied them. The student was then supposed to make connections and be able to spell out the words. This would also allow students to look for patterns in words to help spell other words with the same sounds.
