Early Days
The literacy I was exposed to when I was young was listening to family members talk, reading, or singing. -
Second Grade
In my elementary school we had this program called 5th grade buddies and once a week they would come down and read a different book to us. I was exposed to literacy by listening and absorbing the information. -
Math
Math was my favorite subject in school and mainly because I had a really awesome teacher that expanded my literacy through different ways to solve math problems. I remember learning a trick when you are multiplying by 9's. -
Chess Club
I was exposed to different literacy when I was in chess club because we had to learn all the names of the pieces and how they moved. -
Clarinet
I played the clarinet in middle school and you learn to read the different music notes and the different words for the symbols. It exposed me to a whole different type of literacy. -
Peer Buddies
Peer Buddies was during my lunch hour and we would go hangout with special needs in the art room. My literacy expanded through the different language you would hear the teachers use. -
Invite To Teach
In high school I would go to an elementary school 7th and 8th period to observe classrooms and helped out. My teacher exposed me to a lot of lesson plans and bulletin boards and things I didn't know before. -
Sign Language
I was exposed to a different way to enhance my literacy by learning sign language my freshman year of college. I was so interested that it made me want to learn more words and figure out the signs for them.
