    The Word "Different"
    In first grade, I struggled with the word different in class. Because of my problem, I spent 30 minutes studying and practicing how to write the word different. To this day, I always associate the word different with a blue whale, which was the cover of the book.

    "The pen is mightier than the sword"
    In elementary school, I wasn't a very strong kid. There was always boys that were tougher and bigger than me, which made me feel small and weak. But what I noticed was that, they weren't as good at writing as they were strong. I took advantage of that weakness and made myself get better at writing. The teacher would notice my improvements and would always compliments, which my tougher classmates wouldn't like. But in the end, I ended up as the guy on top.

    First Day Jitters
    Moving to a new school, for 5th grade. It was the summer before 5th grade boy was I scared. I was afraid that I wouldn't know anyone there and that I would be alone for the rest of my time at Middle School. Coincidentally, I found a copy of the book "First Day Jitters" in my aunt's house. Interested by the cover, I began to read the book and relate to it as well. By the end, my jitters were gone and I had actually enjoyed a book for the first time in a while.

    As a child, I always appreciated the pictures in books I read because they made reading so much fun and gave such life to the book itself. But as I became older, I had to transition to chapter books. When switching to chapter books, I found that they were too wordy and that I didn't exactly have the interest in books once before. But as I began to understand bigger words, it made chapter books more interesting because of the vivid and descriptive words that the authors would use.

    A Blessing In Disguse
    COVID hit the US and I was stuck at home sitting in my bed, bored with nothing to do. I had already watched all the TV shows and movies that I wanted to watch, and now I was beginning to re-watch shows. I get an email about a recommended summer book list and I was about to delete when I saw a book that interested me "Restart". The book seemed interesting, so I decided to try it out and ended up loving it. So much so, that I wanted to read other books that were similar to it.

    I noticed that I repeated words very commonly in my day-to-day speech, which I thought was boring and bland. To fix this problem, I searched through a small copy of the dictionary that I found at my house and tried to learn words that sounded more prestigious and reputable. After 30 minutes of learning new words, I tried my best to incorporate them into my common talk, which gave me compliments by big adults.

    Within the first week of freshman year, Mr. Trenchard assigned my class an essay. That essay had been racking my brain while writing, it had me doubting what I knew before and what do I even know now. At the end, I poured all of my blood, sweat, and tears, so I felt pretty confident turning in the assignment. To which, I got a C. I still don't know how history impacts literature.

    English II Honors
    I took English II Honors with Mrs. Plumey for my sophomore year in high school and I can confidently say that her class was one of the Top 5 favorite classes of my time in West Haven High School. In there, we explored texts from famous authors, and amazing discussions which that I would genuinely enjoy. I can for sure say that her class made me a better reader and writer.
