Harry Potter
On a vacation road trip to Florida my brother listened to Harry Potter before I was old enough to comprehend what was happening but listening to the book gave me the main ideas of the story. -
Family Reading
Reading is not a big hobby in our family but every night of my child hood my family would come together to read a nightly devotion together. -
Library Summer Reading
Our local library put together a summer reading program that rewarded us with pizza hut pizza coupons for reading books from different genres. This always made my siblings and me read alot in the summer. -
Football
Playing football taught me about homographs at a very young age from the jargon of the game having different meetings in a context outside of football. -
Band
My fifth grade self was excited to be able to play music. I learned to play the trombone, through this process I learned how to read sheet music and learned the language of music. -
Accelerated Reader
AR points swept the middle school and teachers demanded you to have a certain number of AR points each month leading to forced reading which like many others took the drive to read for fun away. -
Spanish
Learning a second language created a literacy challenge but mostly made me realize the struggle to learn a language if it is not surrounding you. -
Coding
In my high school engineering class we learned basic coding which takes numbers and letters and sequenced them into different patterns to make a small robot perform different tasks.
