Homestead Act
Lincoln passed this bill which gave applicants ownership of farmland or "homesteads" at no cost. -
Morrill Act
Lincoln passed this bill which provided each state with 30,000 acres of Federal land to be sold and the proceeds were to be used to fund public colleges that were focused on agriculture and the mechanical arts. -
Emancipation Proclamation
Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which started the process of the freedom of slaves. This also allowed for African American soldiers to fight for the Union. -
National Bank Act
Lincoln passed this bill which established a system of national banks for banks and created the United States National Banking System. -
End of the Civil War
Abraham Lincoln was commander in chief during the Civil War and managed to preserve the Union as one nation.
