    When he first came into office, many states decided to leave the union. The problem of slavery and whether it should or shouldn't be legal kept the north and south apart. In his first year in office is when the civil war began.

    Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United states and president during the civil war. He was president from 1861 until his assassination in 1865.Throughout his time as president he worked to abolish slavery and that is what he is most known for. During the civil war he began working on the capitol and gave the first speech there. (learned that from inauguration:)

    The Civil war began on April 12th,1861. Shots were fired at fort Sumter. This began the battle at Fort Sumter and the beginning of the Civil war. This was ended on the 13th of april, after the union forces surrendered.

    On january 1st 1863, lincoln gave the emancipation proclimation speech which led to the freeing of slaves during the civil war.

    on april 26th lincoln and his wife went to a theater where lincoln was shot by john wilkes booth in the head, eventually leading to his death.
