Just a few days before delivering the Gettysburg address, Lincoln went to the theatre to see a play called "The Marble Heart". in which Booth played the Villian. It was said that Booth would direct many of his villanious speeches directly toward Lincoln's box. -

Lincoln held a meetting with Grant and the cabinet. This is when Grant gave his regrets that him nd his wife could no longer attend the play. Which is why he invited Clara Harris and Henry Rathbone. -

Mary and Lincoln went on a carriage ride where they had actually discussed not going to the play, Mary was getting one off her bad headaches and Lincoln himself said he was quite tired but he insisted they go because he needed a good laugh. -

During the plays intermission John F Parker ( A notorious Drinker) who was supposed to be standing as Lincolns body guard left and went next door to a Saloon for a drink. He was not at his post when Act III started. -

John Wilkes Booth slipped into the presidents box and fired his caliber single shot into the back of Lincolns head. Initially everyone thought all the commotion around the box was part of the play until they heard Mary's cries. At the same time Lewis Powell attacked Seward and numerous people in his home including his sons. George Atzerdot was suppose to Kill Johnson but at the last minute backed out. -
Crazy Fact (7)
April 14th 1865
Clara Harris and Henry Rathbone married in 1867. In 1883 just a few days before Christmas, Henry shot and stabbed Clara to death and spent the rest of his life in an insane asylum. Which is crazy because he was stabbed the night of the assassination by Booth. In fact it was his blood all over the place not Lincolns. -

After Booth Escaped the Theatre by horse he met up with David Herold another one of his conspirators. They rode until they arrived at Dr. Samuel Mudds house in Southern Maryland. Mudd was an aquaintance Booth met while scouting escape routes. He sets Booths broken leg which earned him a life sentence that was later commuted by Johnson. -

During this time Dr. Leale to record Lincolns Observations, his pulses could not be counted and his inspirations were becoming very short. At this point he was surrounded by many who were all holding his pulses and arteries. -

Abraham Lincoln Dies at age 56. The first preisdent to be assassinated came only 6 days after Confederate General Lee surrendered, effectively ending the war. On this day Flags were flown across the country, Buisnesses closed down. Americans 'Reeled' Lincolns assassination. -

March 20th 1865
Booths orginal plan was to kidnapp Lincoln and take him to Richmond but on March 20th 1865 Lincoln failed to appear where Booth and 6 of his conspirators were waitng. 2 weeks later Richmond fell to the Union leaving Booth to plan B. -
John Booth (12)
John wilkes Booth was a Maryland Native born in 1838 remained in the North during the Civil war despite his confederate sympathies. He believed Lincoln was going to overthrow the constituion and destroy his beloved south. The search for him was one of the largest manhunts in history. -
Lincolns Dream (13)

Lincolns body was taken to the White House just like in the dream he had told Grant about where he had been assassinated. -
Going Home (14)
April 21st 1865
Lincoln's body was boarded onto a train that took him to Springfield, Illinois. Tens to thousands of people lined the railroads route to pay their resepects to the fallen President. -
Capturing (15)
April 26th 1865
Union troops surrounded a Virginia farmhouse where Booth and Herold were hiding out. They set fire to it hoping they would come out. Herold came out and surrendered but Booth remained inside and was shot in the neck by a sergeant who said Booth raised his gun. Booth was carried out alive, he lingered for 3 hours before gazing at this hands and uttering his last words: "useless, useless". -
Conviction (16)
July 7th 1865
Four of Booths co-conspirators were convicted for their part and were executed by hanging. Included in those 4 were David Herold and Mary Surrat. Surrat was the 1st woman put to death by the federal gov. Her home served as a meeting place and she was actually with Booth the day of the assassination, she was the one who arranged for the guns to be ready that night. -
Bizzare Fact (17)
The Brother of John Booth actually saved Lincolns son Roberts life months before the assassination. Robert had fallen on a train track as the train was leaving the station when Edwin Booth pulled him to safety.
