Date Of Birth
A significant life event, but at the same time, not very impactful. Aside from being born, I don't have many roles and am not aware of social norms. No stress or strain to worry about. I'm just concerned about me and living. -
First Day Of School
Technically, I started a year before in kindergarten, but you don't really learn much society-wise. Grade 1 is when you really start to learn and adapt. You learn about your roles as a student and what is expected of you, what kind of rules the educational institution has in place, as well as social roles and norms in various situations. As I progressed with school, that knowledge further increased. -
A New Home
More so my parents significant life event as opposed to my own. As a kid, hearing about your family moving into a new home is exciting news, but you don't understand the responsibilities that come with a new home. I can only imagine the amount of strain and conflict that came with this investment, especially when it came to locating new social institutions for our family (educational, religious, etc.) -
Elementary School Graduation
Originally, I had started out at the educational institution of White Oaks P.S. I transitioned over to Brick Street P.S. after moving homes, then back to White Oaks after the school was closed down. Roles of the student were uniform throughout, regardless of institution. The only effect that this had on me was behavioral. Due to the difference in major ethnic groups at each school, my behavior was more passive at Brick Street, but more aggressive during my time at White Oaks. -
Beginning Of High School
First day attending London Central S.S. Many social norms and roles remain unchanged transitioning from elementary. Various opportunities to expand personal role set, but risking an increase in role conflict and strain. (Taking on more extracurricular activities, tougher courses, and/or balancing a job). High school has shown me that it is within my best interests to identify what I can do currently, and what is beyond my limits/something I should work towards. -
Football Injury
Very significant life event.
Severe concussion caused by playing Football. From then, I was unable to proceed with my roles as a high school student and as a teenager. Status shifted from social to anti-social and a loner. Life essentially spiraled into a sharp downwards trajectory. -
Finished High School
Did 4 years at LCSS, then went to H.B. Beal for a victory lap. Beal was a great school, but I still had not fully recovered emotionally or mentally. Lost control again during second half of the school year and went into another sharp downwards trajectory. Only thing that kept me from dropping out were fellow cohorts who encouraged me to keep going. -
Word Of His Power Faith Christian Center
Found a renewed sense of life through a religious institution. Cohorts from different walks of life have had similar or worse experiences, and hearing their stories encouraged me to stay and get back up on my feet. Found support from the institution that I could not receive from my family. Worked my way back up and retake control of my life. Gradually took on more roles and integrated myself back into society and social norms. -
Trip to Philippines
Significant life event 2-1. Departed for the first half of my trip. First time on a plane, travelling internationally and being alone while travelling. Transitioned from a dependent to independent individual during my time alone.
Filipino set of roles are very similar to western roles, but more family oriented and dependent on one another to survive and strive. Showed me that no matter kind of life you're given, you always have the opportunity to go up. It's just up to you to take it. -
Trip To Japan
Significant life event 2-2. Second half of my trip was to Japan. The country shares similar social norms to the Western world, but people are more wary and conscious of them. All roles related to living alone shifted onto me. Felt like I had transitioned from a child to an adult for 21 days. Throughout the 21 days, I experienced a little bit of role strain, as it was my first time for a lot of things. But, the country was beautiful and the trip overall was a great experience. -
Beginning Of Undergrad
Finally transitioning from high school student to university student. More roles to take on, more conflicts and strains to combat, which is reasonable since by now, as a young adult, I should be able to handle more. -
Tokyo Olympics
A life event that I would like to add to my list of accomplishments. Would love to experience the Olympics on first hand and witness some of the events. That, or just go back to Japan to visit the country during a different season. This would be considered a vacation, so being able to let go of some of the stress and strain built up over time would be nice. -
Student Exchange Program
During my second or third year in university, I would like to study abroad for a year or take part in their student exchange program. Not too worried about living on my own for an extended period of time, since I now have prior experience, so the transition period should be a lot more smoother. Excited to experience social norms for a longer period of time, because there are key differences between there and Canada that I do enjoy. -
Ending Of Undergrad
A transition point in my life where I can decide to go back to school or straight into the workforce. Either path is beneficial for me. -
Personal Career + Future
Growing up, I've always wanted to work with media, be it graphic design, animation, art or video making. I've always had an affinity towards that sort of thing. Eventually, I would like to own my own business in said field and give individuals with similar interests the opportunity to pursue their passions. I realize that I'll have to go through multiple stages and transitions to get from Point A to Point Z, but I'm looking forward to the journey of going from employee to boss and owner!
