Birthday
I was born only 14 months after my older brother. Due to us being so close in age, came a few problems. -
Not Talking
Due to having a brother close in age, he would talk for me. I wasn't speaking or making eye contact, which are signs of Autism. I wasn't diagnosed with Autism, but had an IEP for my speech that I soon graduated from. -
Elementary School
I live in a small town of Milledgeville, Illinois. Milledgeville is where the Elementary, High School, and soon to be Jr. High are all combined in one school. This is the best image I could find online of my school. -
Fainting Spells
At the age of 8, I started to have fainting spells. I went to multiple doctors who took blood, did heart tests, and all told me different causes for my spells. My senior year of high school we finally found out what caused my fainting spells, over active kidneys, all I have to do is eat more salt and drink lots of gatorade. -
Learning About Different Cultures
In girl scouts, we would have these around the world events with other troops. We would have booths where other girl scout troops could learn about our selected country's culture, and we could learn theirs. This event made me become interested in other cultures than my own. (I'm in the green and yellow tie die shirt, with my arm on my stomach). -
Learning About My Ancestry
Due being interested in other cultures, my mother taught me about my own ancestry. I learned that my great great grandparents were from Mexico, and they came to Sterling, IL. They came Sterling so my great great grandfather could work at the steel mill. (This is my great great grandmother) -
Jr. High
My school had two towns combined, Chadwick and Milledgeville. Chadwick is where the Jr. High is. Well, technically 4th-8th grade. -
Teachers Aiding
Due to having the elementary in the same school as my high school, high schoolers were able to teachers aid for elementary school teachers. Teacher's aiding counted as a P.E. credit, if you teacher's aided for P.E. I teacher's aided P.E. my sophomore year of high school and my senior year. -
Learning about Animal Testing
My sophomore year of high school, we were to write a paper taking one side of a debate, I chose animal testing. After researching about animal testing, I was disturbed. That's when I stared to believe that animals have the same rights as humans, and became a cruelty free activist. -
Not Following Footsteps
While teacher's aiding for P.E. I kind of knew I wanted to go into teaching, but I didn't want to follow my brothers footsteps. My brother is studying Middle Level Education at ISU, and I thought it would be weird if I also studied teaching. Turns out, he thinks it is cool that we are both becoming teachers and going to the same college. -
Not Going Into Nursing
Due to not wanting to follow my brother's footsteps, I planned on becoming an Ultrasound Technician after high school. To learn more about Allied Health, I went to Whiteside Area Career Center (WACC). Due to my fainting spells, my teacher in the WACC program told me that a health care career is not the route for me. -
The Day I Decided To Teach
I was teacher's aiding in a second grade classroom, when the teacher was upset with a student for not finishing their homework. The teacher left the classroom, leaving the child crying while doing their homework. I decided to help the student out, and we ended up finishing his homework within ten minutes. Making me realizing at that moment, I never want a student to feel the way this teacher made him feel. -
2nd Grade Teacher's Aid
I became a second grade teacher's aid, because I was told I didn't need to take Spanish 3. Due to having no other classes for me to take my senior year, I teacher's aided for my old second grade teacher. -
Joining My College Marching Band
My mom made me choose between joining a sorority or the ISU marching band. I chose to join the marching band, due to loving music and hoping to meet people who are just there for fun. I met my best friend the second day of band camp. (I'm the second person, and she's the first person) -
Passing of a Student
While P.E. teacher's aiding, I had a student her 1st and 3rd grade year (my sophomore and senior year). During my first semester in college, she died in a car accident. I never expected to experience the loss of one of my students.
