William Haywood is the leader of the IWW. He denouned the AFL's cooperation along with business owners. Which they fail to include unskilled workers. Haywood vowed to organize textile, lumber &farm workers, also miners to overthrow the capitalist system. -
Changing the Work Ways
Haywood Succeeded in raising wages for its African American memberships from $1.25 to $4 a day. Also actively recuited females to work side by side with the men workers. Which an IWW newspaper expressed that wemon working side by side with the men in strikes. Would so develop a fighting force that would end capitalism. -
Wobblies
Also known as IWW members. Pursued their goals through boycotts, industrial sabotage. They were also big in general strikes. -
Strike of the Hour
Haywood led 10,000 workers in a strike against the textile mills of Lawrence, Massachusetts. This was to protect large cuts in wages. After two monthes the mill owners gave in. -
Nothing Lasts Forever
Strikes started to fail miserably, however most Americans grew fearful of the IWW's revolutionary goals & methods. Disagreements among the leaders weakened the union's increasing powers. Few years later the IWW collapsed, and began to fade from power.
