Life of Catherine the Great

  • Birth

    Catherine is born in Pruissia as Princess Sophie Friederike Auguste
  • Begans Journey to Royalty

    Sophie (Catherine) visits Russia with her mother. Shortly after,her mother gets ill and dies. Empress Elizabeth introduces her to her son, Peter, and they are soon engaged.
  • Becomes a new person

    Despite her Lutheran background, Sophie converts to Russian Orothdox. She recives the new name of Catherine.
  • Marriage

    Catherine marries Peter in St Petersberg at 16 years old.
  • Children

    After 10 years of not so happy marriage, Catherine and Peter had their first child. They namned him Paul and he was mostly taken care of by his grandmother, Elizabeth
  • New Rule begins

    Empress Elizabeth dies and Peter assumes the throne. He becomes Peter III and Catherine becomes the Empress Consort. He was openly cruel to her and talked about ruling with his mistress instead of her.
  • Catherine takes over

    Peter greatly angered the Orthodox Church during the end of his rule. After only 6 months, he is overthrown by a coup orchestrated by Catherine. A few days later, Peter is killed and Catherine has he coronation to be the Empress of Russia
  • Death

    Catherine is said to have died of a stroke on November 17, 1796 at 67 years old. She was buried next to Peter III in Peter and Paul Cathedral, St Petersburg.
