President Thomas Jefferson picked Meriwether Lewis to lead the expedition to find the North-West passage. Lewis also picked William Clark to be his sidekick for the expedition. -
Louisiana Purchase
The French were at war with Spain and they needed money fast so they sold their territory in North America for 15 million dollars (3 cents an acre). The Louisiana purchase pushed the importance of Lewis and Clark's expedition so that president Jefferson knew what was out there. -
