    Captain Lewis and Clark were commanded by the President in the year 1804 to explore the Missouri river to find a way to the Pacific Ocean because President Jefferson wasn't sure of what he bought for 15 million dollars.

    In Fort Mandan, Lewis and Clark met French-Canadian trapper Toussaint Charbonneau and hired his wife as an interpreter. They allowed his pregnant Shoshone Indian wife Sacagawea to join him on the expedition.
