St. Louis, Missouri
The expedition started in St. Louis. They met all the men of about 4 dozen there. They traveled down the Missouri river with a keelboat and two pirogue boats.

First Casualty
Sergeant Charles Floyd died in what is now Sioux City, Iowa. He most likely died from a burst appendices. They also named a river after him.

Meeting of Sioux Indians
On August 30th Lewis and Clark have a friendly meeting with Yankton Sioux. Then on September 25th "the Teton Sioux demand one of the boats as a toll for moving farther upriver (Lewis and Clark Timeline). They almost fight until the chief stops them. They stayed with the Indians for three more days.

Fort Mandan
"North of what is now Bismarck, North Dakota, the corps of Discovery reaches the earth-lodge villages of the Mandan's and Hidatsa's." (Lewis and Clark Timeline) About 4,500 people lived there. They decided to build Fort Mandan across from the main village. Later on November 4th they met Toussaint Charbonneau and his wife Sacajawea and she helped them as an interpreter.

A place where weather affects the expedition
The expedition was affected by weather when had to stay in Fort Mandan for the winter. The y had to stay there because it was so cold they couldn't continue till it got warmer. Once during the winter it reached -45°.

A Baby Is Born
Sacagawea gave birth to her son. His name was Jean Baptiste. Lewis made the delivery quick by giving Sacagawea a potion.

Experience with Grizzly Bear
The expedition members thought that the Indians were exaggerating when they talked about the power of a bear. Until they come in contact with a Grizzly Bear. It chased them through the plains and it was nearly impossible to defeat.

They Meet Shoshone Tribe
They find the Shoshone Village and ask for horses in order to be able to get up the mountains. With Sacagawea as translator. The Shoshone chief was Sacagawea's brother. They got the horses and started the next leg of their journey.

Experience In Present Day Idaho
They started climbing the Bitterroot mountains. They started running out of food and it started getting colder. Several days later, close to starvation they came out of the Bitterroots and were in what is now Weippe, Idaho.

A place where there was an illness
People got sick when they were starving on Bitterroot. They also got sick when the Nez Perce helped them and they ate for the first time in a while. That's when they got sick.

A Time When the Group Was Significantly Aided By Indians
The Nez Perce Indians help the expedition when they were starving. They became friends with them. They also taught them things like how to build a canoe.

Peacful Trade Between Expedition and Indians
They reached the Columbia and that's where they came to an Indian village. The Indians had a lot of salmon but instead of taking the salmon they bought dogs form the Indians.

Fort Clatsop
They decided to spend winter at Fort Clatsop. They celebrated Christmas there. They gave out tobacco and handkerchiefs. Fort Clatsop was named after an Indian tribe near them.

A Place Where A Tree Effected The Expedition
The group ran out of tobacco so the had to use something else for tobacco. A man named Patrick Grass said that the men could use crab tree bark instead of tobacco. That was how they substituted the tobacco.

A spot where someone killed an Indian
"Heading back toward the Missouri, Lewis sees eight Blackfeet Warriors." (Lewis and Clark Timeline) They end up camping with each other, but then in the morning they find them trying to steal their guns and horses. Then they fight and two of the Blackfeet died. It's the only bloodshed in the expedition.
