Illness and Death on the Journey
After a few months during the journey Sergeant Charles Floyd becomes ill. Lewis does everything he can but Sergeant Charles Floyd never seems to get better and dies August twentieth. Scientists are fairly certain that he suffered from a burst appendix and Lewis couldn't have done anything to help him in this case. -
Sioux Tribe
Lewis and Clark met the Yankton Sioux at the end of August 1804, The Yanktons were ready to open a trade relationship with the United States and wanted guns from Iewis and Clark. Instead of getting what they wanted they got an invitation to send a delegate to talk to the president. -
Fort Mandan
Lewis and Clark discover earthlodge villages of the Mandan and Hidatsas Indians. The captains decide to build Fort Mandan across a nearby river. while construction started on october 24 it did not finish until december 24. -
Sacagawea gives birth
Sacagawea gives birth to Jean Baptiste on february eleventh. during birth Sacagawea drank a mixture of water and crushed rattlesnake rings. Lewis gave this to her as a medical treatment and after consuming gave birth around ten minutes later -
Killing a Grizzly Bear
Lewis gets curious after hearing about Grizzly Bears and follows some of its tracks and later kills it. he thought it rather easy with only using one shot but later trys killing another one and can not kill it after nine shots. He later writes that his curiosity has been filled on the creature. -
Lewis-Blue-Flax
Lewis Writes about the discovery of a plant he called Lewis-Blue-Flax on July eighteenth. Lewis thought it would make exellent flax which is how it got its name. The Native indians at the time used the plant for fishing nets, ropes, and other cordage. -
Shoshone Tribe meeting and trading
Lewis and Clark discoverd a village of Shoshones. After discovering them they try and negotiate for horses. they later learned that the chief of the the tribe was Sacagawea's brother. -
Experience in present day Idaho
After nearly starving in some nearby mountains the Lewis and Clark emerge in modern day Idaho. While in Idaho they are befriended by the Nez Percé. Lewis's men tget sick stuffing themselves with salmon while staying with the Nez Percé. -
Storm Delay
At the first signs of the ocean a storm catches the expedition. the storm delays them for three weeks. after the storm passes the travel three miles and reach the ocean -
Fort Clatsop
The expedition meet up with a tribe of indian called the Clatsop Indians. They present them with Fort Clatsop which is how it got its name. After they present the fort the expedition heads for home. -
Death of a Native Indian
On the journey home the expedition meet eight blackfeet warriors and setup camp with them. In the morning the company find the indians trying to steal their horses. the final outcome leaves two indians dead and Lewis and Clark return home on September twenty third, 1806.
