The expedition finally starts their journey. There are about four dozen men who are part of it. They journey in a keelboat along with two pirogues. -
When the Expedition Experience a Causality
Sergeant Charles Floyd becomes their first casualty when he passes away.They then bury him on a hilltop, which they called "Floyd’s Bluff". They also called a small river that is next to the hill "Floyd’s River". -
The Sioux Tribe
The Teton Sioux demand for one of their boats to have for themselves. There was almost a fight until the Chef was able to stop it. The expedition only stays for three more days with the tribe until they leave. -
Fort Mandan
It was getting very cold for them. They finally finish Fort Mandan on Christmas Eve. They then stay in it during the winter. -
A Baby is Born
A baby boy is born from Sacagawea. He is named Jean Baptiste. Lewis helps her with the delivery with a potion he gives her that speeds it. -
Where an Animal Affected the Expedition
When they make it to Montana they are shocked by the wild animals. They are especially shocked by the number of buffalos there are. They are eating nine pounds buffalo a day just beause of how many there are. -
Where Weather Influences the Expedition
When the rest of the expedition catch up with the ones who found the waterfalls, they start building carts to carry their things in. While they are traveling they experience extreme heat and hail storms. This causes them to travel for almost a month instead of a half a day journey beause of the weather. -
The Shoshone Tribe
Lewis is ahead of the rest of the expedition and meets the Shoshone Tribe. He then tries to trade with them to get horses for the mountain. The rest of the expedition came the same day with Sacagawea. She translates for them and they learn that the Shoshone chief is actually her brother. -
A Peaceful Trade with the Natives
They are able to successfuly get plenty of horses from the tribe for their journey. It was also easier to trade with them because of how Sacagawea is the sister of the chief. On the other hand, even though Lewis has accomplished many great things he feels like he hasn't done anything. -
When They Get Help From the Nez Percé Indians
When the expedition finally gets out of the Bitterroot Mountains they are completely exhausted and starving. The Nez Percé try to decide what they should do with the new people. With the help from an elderly women called Watkuweis, they come to a conclusion that they will help and befriend them. They provide food and teach them how to make canoes. -
When They Get Sick
The Nez Percé indians help them get back on their feet after the awful journey through the Bitterroot Mountains. They provide plenty of salmon and camas roots for the expedition. They beome very sick after feasting on them. -
What Occured in Present Day Idaho
"Near what is now Orofino, Idaho," They have new canoes that they made with the help from the Nez Percé. They bring them to the Clearwater River and put them in the river. Thankfully, they were able to ride on the current instead of against it. -
Fort Clatsop
The expedition finish their winter quarters to live in during the cold months. They then call it Fort Clatsop. While they are living in it they celebrate Christmas. For the presents they gave out some handkerchiefs and the rest of their tobacco. -
A Tree that Effected the Expedition
The expedition has run out of both whiskey and tobacco. They then find a tree who's bark can be used as a substitute for tobacco. The tree that they used was called a crab tree. -
An Incident that Leads to Death for two of the Blackfeet Warriors
Lewis and three other men find some Blackfeet warriors. Lewis, the three men, and the warriors decide to make camp together. Although, when Lewis and his group woke up they saw the indians trying to steal their guns and horses. This caused them to fight with one another which lead to two of the warriors dying.
