Hearing Impairment was discovered.
Was fitted with hearing aids. -
IEP was established
Individualized Education Plan was put into place by Howard County School Systems for services. They told my Mom due to my hearing impairment, I would never be able to read and most likely would be behind my aged peers. This would be due to the fact that hearing the sounds and learning phonics would be a problem for me. -
School System Services Started
Speech Interventions, Resource classes with a total of 4 students to a classroom for Math and Reading. Smaller and more hands-on instruction. -
Transition to Elementary Education to Middle School
I learned how to read and was thriving. The demand for reading and comprehension was limited in Middle School years. -
Period: to
Middle School Years
Still in Special Education that implemented IEP services. Smaller classes and extra help with other classes. -
Highschool
Learning was harder, I was far behind my peers than I thought. The environment was different and I was failing. Overcrowed Special Education classes and no time for one on one like I was used to. Hormones affected moods and home life issues, it was too overwhelming. English class assignments were to read a whole NOVEL and write a book report. There was no way I was reading a novel. -
DROP OUT

General Education Diploma was earned.
I haven't been in a school setting in years!!! I had to remember my reading skills all over again. Thank goodness I had good schooling in my early years and were able to recall good reading decoding skills. -
Started Howard Community College Classes
Entered HCC and had to start prerequisites. English was included, writing on a college-level was very new.
