    The act increased the Underground Railroad for slaves fleeing out of the country. This was the most controversial part of the Compromise of 1850 and caused many abolitionists to increase their efforts against slavery.

    Kansas was allowed to determine whether it would enter the union as free or slave. Pro-slavery forces supported by the President at the time. However, there was enough opposition that in 1858 it was sent back to Kansas for a vote.This event lead to the civil war because, Kansas voters rejected the Constitution and Kansas became a free state.

    John Brown in 1859 hoped to make a slave uprising and didnt go as planned. This Raid later help lead to the civil war becuase, Southerns were convinced, they were not safe. They now knew the North was now commited to producing a slave insurrection.

    Abraham Lincoln was elected President for the Republican candidate.Republican Party thought that the South was becoming too powerful and made it part of their platform that slavery would not be extended to any new territories or states added to the union. And this event lead to the civial war becuase many sates were succeeding from the United States.
