    • The military alliance between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy -Each member promised promised mutual support to eachother

  • Triple Entente

    -This is an alliance of France, Britain, and Russia
    -In 1914 all three members of the group entered the war as an alliance against Germany and Austria-Hungary

  • Austria-Hungary takes control over Bosnia

    -Austria-Hungary announced annexation over Bosnia
    - The crisis permanetnly damaged relations with Austria-Hungary, and Russia, and the kindom of Serbia

  • Archduke was Assassinated

    -Franz Ferdinand and his wife were shot dead in Sarajevo, by Gavrilo Princip
    -The political objective of the assassination was to break off Austria-Hungary's south-Slav provinces so they could be combined into a Greater Serbia or a Yugoslavia.

  • Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia

    • Happened because of the assassination of Franz Ferdinand -After securing the unconditional support of its powerful ally, Germany, Austria-Hungary presented Serbia with a rigid ultimatum on July 23, 1914, demanding, among other things, that all anti-Austrian propaganda within Serbia be suppressed, and that Austria-Hungary be allowed to conduct its own investigation into the archduke's killing

  • Germany invades Belgium

    -austria-hungary was an imperalist and they wanted to compete with other european powers
    - they wanted to outflank France and get to Paris for resources

  • A german u-boat sinks the lusitania

    • took voyage during the outbreak of WWI
    • was hit and 1,198 died on boar

  • The first battle of Somme

    -The plan for the Somme offensive evolved out of Allied strategic discussions at Chantilly, Oise
    -he Somme offensive was to be the Anglo-French contribution to this general offensive and was intended to create a rupture in the German line

  • The zimmerman note is discovered

    -The message came as a coded telegram dispatched by the Foreign Secretary of the German Empire
    -was a 1917 diplomatic proposal from the German Empire to Mexico to make war against the United States

  • USA declares war on Germany

    -On May 7th 1915, German U-boats, patrolling in the Atlantic --Ocean, fired torpedos at the British passenger ship Lucitania sinking her in 20 minutes. Onboard were 128 Americans. -Woodrow Wilson, demanded that Germany stop attacking passenger ships, and declared that America was too proud to fight.
